アナログ専用線の向こうに、FreeBSD box がある。
http のキャッシュサーバなどを任せているのだが、
今日ふと気がつくとネットワーク上から消えている。
ping(8)も返って来ないということは、かなりまずい状況だ
。
で向こうにいる、
NT 真理教信者のW部長(仮名)に
「BSD 止まってませんか?」と確認したら、「止まってるみたいですね」との返事
。
と言っても、この BSD box はコンソールレスだから、
確認と言ってもやはり ping を打つ程度だろう。
しかたなく「リセットしてください」と頼んだ。
NT 真理教信者の W 部長の喜ぶ顔が目に浮かぶようだ。
「ほーれ見ろ」とか思っているに違いない
。
しばらくして起動したようなので /var/log/messagesを調べた。 別にクラッシュした形跡等は無く、リセット直前のログも残っている。 それによると、このホストの IP アドレスを詐称したホストがあったらしい。 その Ethernet address は 8:0:7:* で、これは Apple のベンダコードである。 問題のマットンキッシュを使っていた人に聞いたら、 OS のインストールとかやっていて、 間違った IP アドレスを振ってしまったとのこと。
結局、向こうのルータが間違った ARP を覚えてしまった為に、
こちらからは見えなくなってしまったようだ。
BSD はちっとも悪くなかったじゃ〜〜〜ん。
停電以来 90 日以上ずーっと元気に動いていたのに・・・
。
BSD そう簡単には止まらない でもコンソールくらいは付けとけ

なんでも NT 4.0 のデモをインストールしたらしい。

なんか凄い HTML エディタが付いていて、
WWW サーバや全文検索エンジンも付いていて、
とってもいいらしい。
あそうそう、DNS サーバも付いている筈だ。
SMTP/POP サーバは付かないんだっけ?

マイクロンフトと言えば、最近テレビ CM もハデハデだが、 かたやマットンキッシュの CM は余り見掛けなくなったような気がする。
その W 部長のダイナブックを買った
M君(仮名)が、
ついに FreeBSD をインストールした
。
どうも SONY の CD-ROM ドライブの調子が悪くてはまったらしいが、
なんとかインストールできて、おまけに X まで動いているようだ。
それを見た奥様の M さん(仮名)が、
「あたしも X やりたいな」
と言ったとか言わなかったとか
。

majordomo ではまる。 あるメールを出すと、BOUNCE MAIL と言うのがリストのオーナに行ってしまうのだ。 ハマる事数 10 分、resend に -s オプションを付けると、 本文や Subject: に subscribe 等のキーワードがあった場合、 オーナに Admin request というメールが行く事がわかった。
実は以前、梁山泊の ML で同様の質問があって、
その時回答したのが私自身だったのだが、
まさか自分ではまるとは思わなかった。
しかも、よくよく考えたら、さらなる以前にもハマった事があったのだ
。
腹が立ったので、/etc/aliases をいじって -s オプションを外す事にした。
ところが症状が直らない。
なぜだ? ちゃんと newaliases(1) もしたのに
?
またまたハマる事数 10 分、 resend のオプションは、全く機能していない事がわかった。 実際のオプションは <リスト名>.conf というファイルに記述するのだ。 この .conf ファイルが存在しない場合にのみ、 majordomo は resend のオプションを調べて .conf ファイルを生成する。 一旦生成されると、コマンドラインのオプションは無視されるのだ。
majordomo インストールメモの makelist は、 標準でこの -s オプションが有効になっているので、後で修正しよう。 こんな訳のわからん機能いらないよねえ。

きゅー八で DOS 窓でプログラムを開発していた。
F3 キーに 0xfd13 というコードを割り当てると、異様な事が起きる。
関数 getch() で F3 を押すと、getch() から返って来た後、
数ミリ秒後にプログラムの実行が停止するのだ。
しかも、そこでキー入力を行うと何事もなかったかのように
処理が進むのだ
。
このライブラリの作者の
NetWare 真理教のN君(仮名)
によると、
「プログラムによって起きたり起きなかったりする」
らしい。
そのプログラムを操作中、キーを押し続けると DOS 窓がクラッシュする。
スタックが足りないのか、
それとも N 君のライブラリが悪いのかといろいろ疑ったのだが、
悩む事 2 日、ふと天啓を受け bcc の -O2 を外したら、案の定直ってしまった
。
N 君によると、
「*まだ*オプティマイズなんかしてたんですか(@_@)!?
うちの会社で bcc で -O2 なんかしてるの、神田さんだけですよ!!」
との事だ。
実はこないだも、
-O2 によって浮動小数点例外が起きるバグにぶち当たっていたのだ
。
その時はオプションをシラミ潰しに調べ、
-O2 -O-e なら回避できる事に気が付いた。
けど、もーあほらしいから -O2 なんか絶対絶対絶対絶対絶対絶対
ゼ〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜っっっっったい使わない!!!!

きゅー八って、未だに「新 JIS」のフォントが無いのね。
FreeBSD + kterm(SJIS) でコーディングしていたのだが、
罫線キャラクタ(└├│等)が画面表示されないんで、
たまげてしまいました
。
きゅー八の Win95 のドス窓(最大画面モード)で、 ping とか実行すると、
勝手にウィンドウ画面になっちゃう
!!
Win95 の API を使ったコマンドラインアプリケーションを実行するとそうなるらしい。
いや〜〜〜、やっぱりきゅー八って凄いわ

Virtual GAME BOY を get する。
カートリッジの ROM は別途入手しなければならない。
試しに Galaga & Glaxian を遊んでみたが、
こりゃなかなか素晴らしい出来だ。
私のマシンは P5/100 MHz だが、ちゃんと遊べる速度が出ている
。
が、いかんせん画面がちっこいので、
大きくするパッチを作った。
ところが、これだと P5/100 じゃ重いわ・・・
。
xbro の新バージョンが固まって来た。 もうすぐリリースだ。

もといアクセラレイテド・エックスを買った。
「これでマトロクスのミレニアムを買っても大丈夫(^^)」
と言っていた。
Accelerated-X については面白い話がある。ちょっと長いが。
FreeBSD-hackers-ML で、なにかしら X サーバのマウスの事で、 高度にテクニカルな話が繰り広げられていた。 が、テクニカルな話はこの際関係ないのでばっさり省略してある。

その時は、もしかして「うる星」の竜之介と勘違いしたんではないか?
と推測したのだが、ピンポーンだったかも知れない。

6 年くらい前だったら、うる星アイテムをいっぱい持っていたけど、
引越しの時全部捨てちゃったからなあ。
持っていればテリーにあげられたんだけど

Heck, you'd probably be surprised at how many people have asked me to put an audio track on the next FreeBSD CD - some sort of musical number reminscent of Borland's Turbo Jazz Band (which does cheat outrageously by having employees who are actually GOOD at music participate in it). I suppose I could do the vocals, David could play the drums (since he's not musical at all and you don't need to be a musician to play the drums :-) and anybody else with a shred of musical talent could play whatever they play. All we need to do is agree on a musical style, some words, a simply tune and then everyone can record their track separately and we'll mix the results together. Being the lyricist, I'll even come up with some inspiring lyrics to start with: "FreeBSD!" [background vocalists: "uh huh! uh huh!"] "FreeBSD!" [background: "uh huh! uh huh!"] "It's not Linux!" 私はボーカルをやれると思うし、 David(訳註:コアチームの一人)はドラムを叩けると思うし (というのは、彼は全然音楽の才能がないし、 タイコを叩くのには特にミュージシャンである必要は無いし :-)、 あとは、誰でも才能のカケラがある連中は、できる楽器をやればいい。 必要な事は、音楽のスタイルを決めて、歌詞を書いて、キーさえ合わせれば、 みんなで勝手に自分のパートを録音して、最後にミックスダウンできる。
まずは叩き台として、私は詩人として、歌詞を提供しよう:

因みにこの一連のメールは今年の 4 月頃のものだ。 その後 FreeBSD 2.1.5 がリリースされたが、 少なくとも私の CD-ROM には音声トラックは入っていないようである。
